Eight teenagers have been charged following a 22-mile police chase involving a stolen car across Fife and Perthshire.

The theft was initially reported at around 2.05am in Cowdenbeath. The car was then spotted by officers over an hour later in Kelty.

Despite being signalled to stop, the vehicle failed to do so. A chase commenced with the car eventually stopping on Brandywell Road in Abernethy.

Eight youths fled the vehicle after it came to a halt. Police dog units were deployed to the scene to help search the nearby wooded area, and all the teens were traced.

The occupants were charged in connection with theft, with the youngest aged 14.

Two 15-year-old boys were also charged in connection with road traffic offences.

A report is due to be submitted to the relevant authorities.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.05am on Saturday, January 18, 2025, we received a report of a car stolen in Cowdenbeath. 

“Around 3.15am, officers saw the car in Kelty and it failed to stop for officers when signalled.

“A vehicle pursuit took place and the car stopped in Brandywell Road, Abernethy.  

“The eight occupants, aged between 14-18, were uninjured. 

“Two 15-year-old male youths were charged in connection with theft and road traffic offences. 

“The other six occupants were charged in connection with the theft.

 “A report will be sent to the relevant authorities.”
