A teacher who assaulted a pupil and grabbed their clothing has been banned from the profession.
Peter McInnes’ actions were found to be a “serious departure of standards” when he attacked the child, a misconduct hearing was told.
The General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) heard that Mr McInnes assaulted the child and grabbed their clothing in the incident at a high school in Dundee in 2019.
In a fitness to teach hearing, the GTCS struck Mr McInnes from the teaching register.
‘Superb record’
Mr McInnes was previously described as having a “superb record” following his 40 years in the teaching profession.
However, a report said his conduct fell “significantly short of the standards expected of a registered teacher and that he is therefore unfit to teach”.
In 2022, he appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court and admitted a charge of assault. He was admonished.
Following the decision by the GTCS, McInnes has 28 days to appeal the decision to the Court of Session.
His name will remain on the register until the appeal period has expired, or any appeal lodged within that period has been determined.
McInnes will be allowed to reapply to register as a teacher after two years.
