A dumper truck was driven into a fence during an attempted theft at a construction yard in Moray.

Officers are appealing for witnesses after an attempted theft took place between 3pm on Friday, March 22 and 7am on Monday, March 25 at the yard in Marine Place in Buckie.

A dumper truck was taken and driven into a fence, causing considerable damage, said police.

Officers believe the suspect then attempted to drive the vehicle up the bank without success before abandoning it by the fence.

Attempts were also said to have been made to start an excavator at the yard.

Constable Chris MacKinnon said: “We are appealing for anyone who was in the area of Marine Place over the weekend and may have noticed any suspicious activity around the construction yard to please get in touch.

“We would particularly urge anyone with private CCTV or dash-cam footage which could be of significance to come forward.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0542 of Monday, March 25 2024.”
