A driver has been “stopped and dealt with” after allegedly speeding on a major north east road.

Road Policing Scotland said the motorist was stopped on the A90 Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route (AWPR) on Friday afternoon.

They were found to be travelling at an alleged speed of 126mph by Inverurie Road Police.

The A90 has a maximum speed limit of 70mph, however sections of the dual carriageway road only permit speeds as high as 30 and 40mph.

Unofficially also known as the City of Aberdeen Bypass, the AWPR stretches north from Stonehaven through Kincardineshire and crosses both the River Dee and River Don, before terminating at Blackdog.

A social media statement by the force said the driver had been reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

It read: “Inverurie Road Police have just stopped and dealt with a driver found to be travelling at an alleged speed of 126 miles per hour on the A90 Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
