A derelict building was “deliberately” set on fire in two separate incidents in Dundee.

Emergency services were alerted to two fires at an unoccupied building on Broughty Ferry Road in one weekend.

Police said the first fire around 2.45pm on December 22 and the second around 5.30pm on December 23.

Officers said that while no one had been injured in the fire, and no other buildings were damaged, the fire could have “easily” spread to neighbouring properties.

An appeal has now been launched asking anyone with information to come forward.

Constable Blain Stirling, Maryfield Police Station, said: “We have been making enquiries since the fires were reported to us and would appeal to anyone who has information that may help our investigation to get in touch.

“Whilst the building may be derelict, the fire could easily have spread to neighbouring properties.

“Any information can be passed to police via 101 quoting incident number 1990 of Friday, December 22, 2023. Alternatively, details can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
