A defibrillator donated by a charity set up in the memory of a teenage cyclist killed in a crash has been stolen from a Moray community.
Police said the life-saving equipment was taken sometime overnight between Wednesday, December 11 and Thursday, December 12 from outside Anderson Butchers on West Church Street in Buckie.
The defibrillator was donated to the community by charity Keiran’s Legacy, which was set up in memory of Keiran McKandie who died when his mountain bike was hit by a car in Moray in 2016.
The 16-year-old’s parents launched a campaign to ensure more of the life-saving devices are close at hand when someone suffers a cardiac arrest.
In 2022, it was confirmed every police fast response vehicle in Scotland carries a defibrillator thanks to a donation from the charity.
Sergeant Graeme Allan said: “This is an abhorrent crime of an item that could possibly be used to save a person’s life.”
