A major road is closed in both directions following a collision in Aberdeenshire.

Drivers are facing a diversion of 23km following the incident which happened on the A90 near St Fergus shortly after 3.30pm on Wednesday.

The road is closed in both directions and road users are being urged to approach the area with caution.

Northbound traffic is being diverted off the A90 by taking first exit at Howe O Buchan Roundabout on to A950 westwards, continue on A950 to Mintlaw, at roundabout in Mintlaw take third exit on to A952 northbound, continue on A952 to rejoin A90 at Cortes near Lonmay and the permanently positioned signs.

Southbound traffic will exit A90 by turning right on to A952 at Cortes near Lonmay, continue southwards on A952 to Mintlaw then take first exit at roundabout in Mintlaw on to A950 eastwards, continue on A950 and rejoin the A90 at Howe O Buchan Roundabout and the permanently positioned signs.

Emergency services are at the scene.

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
