A confirmed case of coronavirus has been linked to an additional support needs school in Dundee.
NHS Tayside’s health protection team was made aware of the single case connected to Kingspark School on Tuesday.
It is not yet clear if the affected person is a pupil or member of staff.
A Problem Assessment Group has been convened to investigate the situation.
Kingspark School has around 185 pupils aged between five and 18. All of the youngsters have complex additional support needs and many have additional physical disabilities or medical problems.
Dr Ellie Hothersall, consultant in public health medicine, said: “NHS Tayside, Dundee City Council and partners have been working closely to investigate the case and inquiries are ongoing.
“Risk assessments are being carried out, however, parents should be assured that all appropriate precautions are in place and the school remains open.”
The headteacher has contacted all parents directly to inform them of the situation.
Paul Clancy, Dundee City Council executive director of children and families services, added: “We are working closely with NHS Tayside’s health protection team and I would reassure families that appropriate action is being taken.
“The school, which operated throughout the lockdown period as a community support centre, has robust hygiene measures in place.”
