A Perth and Kinross councillor has called for the Broxden roundabout to be “blown up”.
Cllr Hugh Anderson believes more lorry drivers are now driving through Perth and using the new Cross Tay Link Road and Destiny Bridge to avoid Broxden.
The £150m Cross Tay Link Road project was designed to reduce traffic and improve air quality in Perth City Centre but the Strathmore ward councillor said he has seen more heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) going through Bridgend and Scone since the Cross Tay Link Road opened in March 2025.
The Conservative councillor raised the concern as councillors met to review Perth and Kinross Council’s Mobility strategy at the Wednesday, May 27 meeting of the Climate Change and Sustainability Committee.
Referring to the Cross Tay Link Road, Strathmore ward councillor Hugh Anderson said: “While we’re getting improvements as such, what we’re getting is more traffic coming in through old Scone, through Bridgend, lorry traffic, HGVs, avoiding the bypass because of the delays at Broxden – my favourite place, which should be blown up.
“I hope the Scottish Office [Government] will get round to improving Broxden so that will again take more traffic out of the centre of Perth or Bridgend, Scone, etc. But there has been quite an increase in lorries, HGVs on that route. I know because I see it every day when I come into Perth. And it’s because of Broxden not being fixed.”
