A care worker who stole over £16,000 from her vulnerable brother has been struck off.

Gail Mackie, who was convicted in October 2025 of embezzlement, was investigated by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) as a registered care worker.

A total of £16,081 was withdrawn from her brother’s account between November 2021 and October 2023, who had lived in a care facility in Aberdeenshire for over 20 years.

The SSSC report said Mackie’s behaviour “raises serious and justifiable concerns over your trustworthiness and your suitability to work with vulnerable members of society”.

The watchdog concluded that she should be banned from the profession.

Their report outlined: “You have been convicted of embezzling a significant sum of money.

“The victim of this crime is an adult with additional support needs. This raises serious and justifiable concerns over your trustworthiness and your suitability to work with vulnerable members of society.

“It calls into question your judgement and displays a serious values issue.”
