iStockA care worker has been struck off after he sexually assaulted a junior colleague at work.
Clive Chappell from Monifieth was convicted in April at Forfar Sheriff Court of sexual assault and uttering sexual remarks to the woman.
He has now been removed from the register by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) following an investigation.
The newly released report said that Chappell assaulted a female colleague, referred to as ZZ, on December 13, 2024.
He seized the woman and restrained her against a wall, attempted to kiss her on the neck, removed her face covering and kissed her on the mouth.
Chappell then turned ZZ around to face the wall, grabbed her breasts and pushed his erect penis against her, while muttering sexual comments to her.
The SSSC found Chappell’s fitness to practice to be impaired due to his criminal conviction for the sexual assault.
The watchdog found Chappell assaulted the junior female colleague for “his own sexual gratification” and called his behaviour “abusive and sexually motivated”.
The SSSC found his conduct to be “fundamentally incompatible” with the standards expected of workers within the care sector.
The report stated: “If the behaviour were to be repeated, there would be a significant risk of sexual and emotional harm to vulnerable individuals who use social services and the public.”
The SSSC added that Chappell had not shown enough insight or regret into his actions.
Other concerns included his criminal conviction and that his behaviour was sexually motivated and took place during work.
The SSSC concluded that no other course of action was appropriate other than to strike Chappell from the care register.
