Members of Dundee’s only remaining council-run golf course have held talks with a potential investor in a last-ditch bid to save it from closure.
Caird Park golf course is due to shut in April, as part of plans from Dundee City Council to save £500,000.
However, the club has met with a potential investor who plans to table a business case next week.
Andrew Mair of Golf Design International told STV News “alarm bells were ringing” when he heard of the closure.
He said: “As a young lad, I used to stay with a great aunt in Monifieth so I’ve had a fondness from a young age for this area.
“I’m a great believer in golf for all so that’s what got me thinking about what could be done to try and keep this golf course running.”
Members of the Caird Park golf club are now asking for a deferral from the city council to allow them to explore this potential investment opportunity.
Ian Gordon, the club’s captain, said: “We’ve only got eight or nine weeks until the official start of the summer season and that is not enough time to get this deal done.
“Discussions have gone well – we’ve put through our ideas, they’ve got ideas – but time is going to be of the essence.”
A spokesperson for Dundee City Council said: “We welcome approaches from any party that is interested in exploring the future use of Caird Park Golf Course.
“Any parties that may wish to explore a future use are invited to submit proposals for consideration.”
