A 13-year-old boy has been charged with possessing an axe in a Dundee suburb.

Police were called to King Street in Broughty Ferry around 7pm on Tuesday following reports of a group of youths with weapons.

Officers attended, and an axe was recovered. There were no reports of any injuries.

A 13-year-old male was arrested and charged in connection with being in possession of an offensive weapon.

A report will be submitted to the Youth Justice Assessor.

Chief inspector Colin Echevarria said: “As part of the new Policing For our Communities Model, launched in Dundee over the last month, officers have been carrying out more visible patrols across the city in an attempt to deter criminality and engage with the local community.

“This allowed us to respond quickly to this incident last night.

“I’d like to thank the public for their continued support. Anyone with information or concerns about criminality in their area should contact us to allow us to allocate resources appropriately.”
