A supermarket car park in Elgin has reopened after the bomb squad removed an unexploded ordnance device.

Emergency services were called to the retail park on Edgar Road around 12.35pm on Wednesday after the item was discovered.

A cordon was erected as a precaution, and an item, believed to be an old training mortar, was removed.

The restrictions were lifted around 7pm on Wednesday.

Pictures from the scene showed a number of police vehicles parked in an Asda car park.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “EOD personnel have attended Edgar Road in Elgin and removed an unexploded ordnance device. The item, found around 12.35pm on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, is believed to be an old training mortar.

“The cordon has been removed.”
