The body found at the side of the A90 near Marykirk has been officially identified as missing Merseyside man Kenneth Unsworth.
The 46-year-old man was reported missing on November 20, having been last seen leaving the town of Huyton near Liverpool.
Officers were alerted to the discovery of a body near the dual carriageway between Brechin and Laurencekirk at around 12.20pm on November 26.
Police Scotland has confirmed the remains have been formally identified as Mr Unsworth.
Enquiries into the unexplained death are ongoing.
