A fire which took hold within a nature reserve on Tuesday night is being treated as deliberate.

Emergency services were initially made aware of the blaze at around 6.32pm within Aberdeen’s Maidencraig Reserve.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service dispatched one appliance to the scene which extinguished the flames. Police were informed of the incident near the Bressay Way area of the city at around 8.30pm.

There were no reported injuries and the area was made safe by fire crews.

Investigators are treating the incident as wilful. An enquiry is ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.30pm on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, we were made aware of a fire near the Bressay Brae area of Aberdeen.

“The fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. There were no injuries.

“The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: “We were alerted at 6.32pm on Tuesday, March 25 to reports of a fire in the open at Maidencraig Reserve near Aberdeen.

“Operations Control mobilised one fire appliance and firefighters extinguished the fire.

“There were no reported casualties and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”
