Young musicians have been displaying their newfound talents at concerts this Christmas.
Charity Big Noise provides free music tuition in some of the Scotland’s most deprived areas.
Most of the pupils had never picked up an instrument before joining the Big Noise orchestra.
Big Noise launched in the Douglas area of Dundee in 2017, using the power of music to boost confidence and creativity and help drive social change.
Director Paul Sullivan said: “It’s a huge impact. It’s a whole community offer.
“It’s a really inclusive full community offer that we have at Big Noise. The wonders it does for their confidence, for their educational attainment and just a sense of self and identity is massive.
“We work with babies right through to S6 and we also have an adult offer as well.”
From string instruments to percussion, the pupils have been banging their own drum at special Christmas concert for families.
Many have faced financial barriers to music education – but picking up an instrument has helped transform life chances.
World renowned violinist Nicola Benedetti has been a long standing supporter of the scheme.
Head of centre Andy Thorn said: “This is the icing on the cake. The children and young people work really hard.
“They’re learning the music, they’re singing, they’re having fun but it’s great for them to come together and show their parents and carers all the hard work that they’ve put in.”
