A British Airways flight bound for Aberdeen was diverted to Manchester following a “mid-air emergency”.
BA flight 1306 from London Heathrow to Aberdeen departed just after 9.05am on Friday but declared an emergency with squawk code 7700.
The aircraft landed around 10.20am at Manchester Airport as FlightRadar24 data showed the plane making circles over Macclesfield.
A flight update read: “We’re very sorry, this flight scheduled from London to Aberdeen, has been diverted to Manchester.”
A further update stated that the diverted flight is expected to take off from Manchester at 11.15am and land in Aberdeen at 12.21pm.
A later British Airways flight to Aberdeen due to depart Heathrow after 3pm has now been cancelled.
Affected passengers are being asked to speak with BA representatives at the airport if they require further information.
A spokesperson for BA said: “Our aircraft was diverted as a precaution because of a suspected technical issue.
“We’re sorry to our customers for the disruption to their journeys and our teams are working to get them on their way again as quickly as possible.”
