An Arbroath butcher shop has put the Angus town on the culinary world map once again, after being crowned the UK’s “Champion of Champions” for black pudding.
DH Robertson saw off some of the finest black pudding makers in the UK to win the first competition of its kind in London.
Steven Bennett runs the shop alongside his wife Pamela and daughter Ariane. He told STV News: “We’re totally overwhelmed. It still hasn’t sunk in.”

He said: “We faced some amazing talent from the rest of the country and came out tops – that’s just fantastic.”
Black pudding is a traditional sausage made from animal blood along with other ingredients including suet or fat, cereals, grains and often onions.
The winning recipe remains a closely-guarded secret but is thought to date back to before World War Two.

Customer Lesley Maguire told us it was definitely the best she had eaten. She said: “We like black pudding with lorne sausage and fried eggs for our tea sometimes. It’s absolutely delicious.”
Another local resident said: “I usually have it on a Sunday for breakfast.” He said: “It’s lovely. Some of them can be too fatty but Robertsons’ is lovely!”
