The body of a 61-year-old man was pulled from the River Dee in Aberdeenshire on Sunday.

An appeal has been launched following the “unexplained” death of a man after a body was recovered from a river in Aberdeenshire.

Police officers closed Ballater Bridge, in Ballater, at around 12.15pm on Sunday after the body of a 61-year-old man was pulled from the River Dee.

The death is being treated as unexplained, however, investigators do not believe the incident is suspicious.

Officers are asking those who may have information regarding the death to come forward.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We are continuing to carry out enquiries to establish the full circumstances and would like to speak to anyone who was in the area between Saturday evening and Sunday.

“If you live in the town, were walking or visiting the area and saw something that might help us then please get in touch.”
