Appeal launched after ‘cruel’ death of rabbit crushed by cinder block outside Aberdeen Sainsbury’s Google Maps

A rabbit has been crushed to death with a cinder block after being trapped in a basket in a “disgusting” act of animal cruelty.

Police are now appealing for information to the incident that took place outside a Sainsbury’s supermarket in Aberdeen.

A group of young boys were seen acting suspicious outside the store in Garthdee at around 7pm on Tuesday before making off from the scene.

A member of the public then checked a basket that they left behind and found the dead rabbit inside.

It is believed the animal had been crushed to death by a block of concrete after being lured into the basket.

The incident was reported by local news site Fubar News who said: “This is absolutely disgusting, maybe some decent parents will know if their kids hang around Sainsbury’s in Garthdee.

“Hopefully the kids maybe even see it and realise how disgusting their actions are.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers in Aberdeen received a report of animal cruelty following the death of a rabbit on Garthdee Road on Tuesday.

“Enquiries are ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call 101, or information can be passed to Crimestoppers anonymously.”
