Alleged attacker told girl, 12, he'd show her 'how to have a good time', Dundee Sheriff Court hears

A man accused of assaulting a girl on a Dundee street said he would show her “how to have a good time” before assaulting her, a court has heard.

Ilia Belov, 22, is alleged to have carried out the attack on the 12-year-old in St Ann Lane, in the Lochee area of the city, in August last year.

He is also accused of behaving in a “threatening or abusive manner” towards her and three other girls, all of whom were aged between 12 and 14.

A trial at Dundee Sheriff Court heard on Wednesday that Belov made sexual remarks to the girl while he was walking past the group as they were heading towards a bus stop.

Giving evidence via videolink, the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, recalled: “He kept saying, ‘come here sexy. I will show you how to have a good time’”.

The girl, who is now 13, said his words made her feel “angry”, and that she turned around and began shouting at him.

“I was shouting at him, asking him what he was saying,” she told the court.

She told the court the man then began speaking to someone on the phone, and that shortly afterwards a woman ran up to the group.

“She ran up to me, pushed me out of the way, grabbed (another of the girls), and threw her on the ground,” the witness said.

“I went to get back to push (the other girl) out of the way and the lad, he went and smashed my head off (a) pole”.

She pointed to the side of her head to explain where he had grabbed her, and said he had pushed it down onto the pole with “a lot of force”.

She said when she got back up the man was “still standing there”, and that he had then started kicking the other girl in the head.

She said the whole episode lasted in the region of five to eight minutes, and that it ended when police officers arrived on the scene.

Cross-examining the witness, Belov’s lawyer put it to her that his client had grabbed her by the shoulder rather than the head, but she denied this.

He also put it to her that Belov had not been the one to start the incident, and that he had just been responding to comments that had been made to him.

The lawyer put it to the witness that Belov had said: “Why are you saying this to me? Why are you calling me an immigrant?”

She denied ever having called him “anything like that”.

The court also heard evidence from another of the girls, who said she only heard the man call the first witness “beautiful” or “pretty”, but that he had “possibly” said other things as well.

The 14-year-old said despite the girls shouting at him to leave them alone, he continued to follow them as they were heading to a bus stop.

“He was about a metre away. He was following us. We were just minding our own business,” she said.

The girl added that she then decided to leave as she did not feel comfortable.

Belov has denied all the charges against him.
