All jobs have been lost at a UK offshore and subsea technology firm which has a base in Aberdeen following a merger last year.

Bristol-headquartered Beam had an office at Kingshill Park in Westhill as well as bases in Edinburgh and New York.

The firm use AI and autonomy on robotic ships and underwater robots to service offshore wind farms.

More than 200 members of staff have been made redundant across the company, according to employees.

Beam head of talent acquisition and crewing James Reynolds said on LinkedIn: “Today marks the end of Beam. As of today, all employees have been made redundant.”

He added: “From the offshore crews who braved tough conditions, to the robotics and computer vision engineers pushing the boundaries of innovation, to the brilliant minds in marketing, sales, and every team in between – it has been an honour to work alongside you.”

Helen Batt, VP of marketing at the company, added: “The company that over 200 incredibly talented people gave their all to delivering technology to drive the energy transition is no more.”

Employees of the firm, responding to the posts on social media, added: “I’m absolutely devastated that today marks the last day of Beam (formally Rovco/Vaarst).

“I have seen the company grow from when I started as employee number 7 to over 200 incredibly talented people.

“As of today, everyone will be made redundant and words can’t express how gutted I feel for everyone.”

Beam was formed in September 2024 through a merger between Rovco, founded in 2016, and Vaarst, founded in 2021.

The firm pledged a recruitment drive in the north east of Scotland as part of plans to expand the business.

However, recent accounts submitted to Companies House saw Rovco reporting a £8.1m loss before tax in 2023 after an £8.7m loss the year prior.

Beam has been contacted for comment.
