Residents have been urged to remove batteries from electricals before disposing of them after a fire broke out a recycling centre.
Emergency services were called to Peterhead’s household recycling centre on February 27 following reports of a blaze.
The incident resulted in damage to the electricals container and the loss of valuable items for recycling.
Aberdeenshire Council has warned that electricals containing batteries can cause fires when they are thrown in with household waste or recycling and crushed or damaged in bin lorries and recycling centres.

Incidents can impact local services, and cause air pollution levels to spike in the nearby areas.
People looking to recycle batteries have been asked to dispose of them separately at the centres or in a sealed battery bag on top of the kerbside bin.
Environment and sustainability head of service Ewan Wallace said: “All recycling taken to our household recycling centres is greatly appreciated. However, when it comes to electricals, please remove any batteries wherever possible and recycle them separately to ensure the safety of our staff and facilities.”
