A creative mum has joked she is a “low budget Banksy” after creating unique snow sculptures in her local community following heavy snow in the north east.
Kate Witte, from Blackburn in Aberdeenshire, has always enjoyed exploring her creative side, having already developed a passion for face painting.
And when the area was hit by multiple weather warnings for snow, the 45-year-old wrapped up warm to tackle a challenging new canvas in her garden.
Kate told STV News: “I found a few ideas online and I just wanted to make a snowman which was slightly different. I gave them a go and it turned out alright.
“The first one we built was the marshmallow man from the Ghostbusters. We did that during a snow day so the kids were off school and I had help.
“When it snowed again this year I started looking for another challenge. It’s a really big workout, I could feel every muscle in my body afterwards.”
During the cold snap in Aberdeenshire, the mum-of-two has added even more characters to her portfolio of snow sculptures.
Kate has built the Loch Ness Monster, Yoda, Darth Vader and a giant skull over the last few weeks, with many of the mind-blowing creations taking hours to make.
She said: “I’m always surprised by the reaction because I think they are just snowmen.
“People usually don’t see them because I do them in the back garden but I ran out of space this year so I moved to the front.
“Now dog walkers stop to look and cars drive past to take photos. It was even targeted by people with a shovel but since it is made of ice it is still standing.”
The mum has now ran out of space in her garden for more sculptures, however, many of those living nearby are offering up their own gardens for Kate’s creations.
She said; “I’ve now ran out of space and snow but I have offers from the neighbours.
“I feel like a low budget Banksy, all my neighbours are going to wake up with characters in their gardens.
“Last night I was just cleaning my driveway and people were giving me requests so the pressure is on.”
