A shopping centre in Aberdeen was evacuated, and a woman was treated for burn injuries after a power bank exploded in a cinema.

Emergency services, including four appliances and a height appliance from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, were called to Cineworld in Union Square at around 7.55pm on Saturday.

It is understood a power bank exploded and caught fire.

The shopping centre was subsequently evacuated as a precaution, and fire crews stood down at around 8.25pm.

A woman was treated for burn injuries at the scene, and was taken to hospital as a precaution.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 7.55pm on Saturday, July 4, 2026, police were called to attend the Guild Street area of Aberdeen after a report of a small battery pack exploding within a premises.

“The premises was evacuated as a precaution and there was no wider risk to the public.

“A woman later attended hospital for treatment to minor injuries.”

A SFRS spokesperson said: “We were called out to Cineworld in Union Square at around 7.54pm on July 4 for a power bank that caught on fire.

“We sent four appliances and a height appliance to the seat. We left at 8.25pm. One female casualty was treated for burns by the Scottish Ambulance Service.”
