An investigation has been launched after a primary school class in Aberdeen was allegedly told that ‘Santa wasn’t real’ by a teacher.
During a lesson at Greenbrae Primary School, in the Bridge of Don area of the city, P6 pupils were discussing All Saints Day.
This discussion resulted in questions regarding a number of saints including St Nicholas, the patron saint of sailors, children and voyagers.
During the conversation it is alleged that a staff member told pupils that Santa, who is inspired by St Nicholas, is not real.
Aberdeen City Council confirmed that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
An Aberdeen City Council spokesperson said: “Aberdeen City Council is aware that a group of primary six pupils engaged in a conversation about All Saints Day, which led to some children posing questions about other saints, including St Nicholas.
“We are still investigating the matter but would reassure families that any learning from the investigation will be shared to support our staff to help navigate sensitive discussions.
“The Council values the magic and joy of the festive season and appreciates the small number of parents and carers who brought their concerns to us.”
