A motorist was caught taking selfies while driving on a road in Aberdeen while en route to a tanning salon.

Police Scotland’s North East Road Policing Unit said officers “thought they were seeing the Northern Lights of Old Aberdeen” while on patrol on the A947 at Dyce.

However, their eyes had been deceived as the bright light turned out to be the flash of the driver in front taking selfies to “make sure his hair was out of his face before he arrived at the tanning salon”.

The driver was slapped with six points on his licence and a fine of £200, the force confirmed.
