A driver has died following a crash in Aberdeen city centre in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The motorist was pronounced dead at the scene after road policing officers were alerted to the collision, which only involved a red Ford Fiesta, on Wapping Street at the junction with Denburn Road.

The road was closed for more than ten hours while officers conducted an initial probe but has since reopened.

An investigation has now been launched into the incident.

“Around 12.50am on Saturday, December 31, officers attended a report of a one vehicle crash involving a red Ford Fiesta on Wapping Street, Aberdeen at its junction with Denburn Road,” A Police Scotland spokesperson said.

“Emergency services attended and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The road was closed for ten hours but has now reopened.

“Enquiries are ongoing into the collision and anyone who witnessed the collision or has CCTV footage of the incident is asked to contact Police on 101 quoting incident number 0158 of December 31.”
