A cabin crew member fractured their foot on a flight at Aberdeen Airport after a metal bin dropped on it, an investigation has found.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) found the aircraft departed Aberdeen on October 10, 2024 at around 6pm and was a commercial air transport.

Four crew members were onboard the aircraft when one suffered a bone fracture in their foot when a metal bin dropped onto it.

The AAIB found the crew member was removing the bin liner from the metal galley bin when they were distracted by a flight dispatcher handing them a document.

The staff member did not depart on the flight and required medical attention.

Investigators advised crew in the future to use galley trolley bins rather than the galley fixed bin.

The report noted: “During the aircraft turn-around, a member of cabin crew was removing the bin liner from the metal galley bin when they were distracted by a flight dispatcher handing them a document.

“The metal bin dropped onto their foot causing a bone fracture.

“The cabin crew member did not depart on the subsequent flight and received medical attention.

“To prevent reoccurrence, the operator is going to advise its cabin crew to use the galley trolley bins, instead of the galley fixed bin.”
