The A90 is still partially closed more than 40 hours after a body was discovered near the busy road.

The discovery comes amid the search for Kenneth Unsworth, who was last seen on November 20 leaving the town of Huyton near Liverpool.

Officers believed he had travelled north to Tayside or Aberdeenshire.

On Wednesday, police were alerted to the discovery of a body near the dual carriageway between Brechin and Laurencekirk at around 12.20pm.

Formal identification is yet to take place, however, the 46-year-old’s family has been informed.

Lane one of the northbound carriageway remains closed at Marykirk. Traffic is able to pass on lane two.

An investigation into the death is still ongoing and detectives are currently treating the incident as unexplained.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
