A9 closed after lorry 'bursts into flames' as firefighters tackle blaze

The A9 is closed after a lorry burst into flames, with firefighters tackling the blaze.

Traffic Scotland said the road south of Dunkeld was closed in both directions on Wednesday morning due to a vehicle fire.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called just after 6.21am and crews from three appliances were sent to the scene.

Firefighters remain on scene as of 7.30am to extinguish the fire.

It is unknown if there are any reported injuries.

Images from the scene showed what appears to be a lorry engulfed in flames.

Large plumes of smoke can be seen for miles on the road, with drivers reporting hearing “explosions”.

A Police Scotland statement read: “The A9 north and southbound carriageways south of Dunkeld are closed due to a lorry fire.

“Diversions are in place.”
