One person hurt as furniture store goes up in flames

A furniture store went up in flames during the early hours of the morning.

Emergency services were alerted to the blaze at The Furniture Factory on Dundee’s High Street at around 12.12am on Sunday.

Six fire engines, including an aerial appliance, were sent to extinguish the flames.

One casualty at the scene required medical treatment from the Scottish Ambulance Service. It is understood that the injury was not linked to the fire.

A Scottish Fire & Rescue Service spokesman said: “The Scottish Fire & Rescue Service was alerted at 12.12am on Sunday, March 3 to reports of a fire within a two-storey commercial premises on High Street, Lochee, Dundee.

“Operations control mobilised a total of six fire engines including an aerial appliance and firefighters worked to extinguish the flames.

“One casualty received treatment at the scene from the Scottish Ambulance Service.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring that the area was made safe.”

The road will remain closed as investigation works take place.
