A woman has been run over by a fish lorry outside a Lidl supermarket in Aberdeen.

She was left trapped beneath the HGV following the collision at 10.10am on Monday.

The woman is believed to have been crossing Wellington Road with her husband to catch a bus.

The street has been closed in both directions and northbound traffic is being diverted on to Abbotswell Road.

The woman, who had not been identified, is being treated for serious injuries at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "We were called at about 10.10am to Wellington Road at Lidl.

"A woman was trapped underneath a truck. Wellington Road was shut and northbound traffic has been diverted on to Abbotswell Road."

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We're still in attendance, a female casualty has been released. She's now in the care of the ambulance service."

An Aberdeen City Council spokesman Wellington Road would likely remain closed for some time.

One man who witnessed the crash said: "I was waiting on a bus on the opposite side of the road. I happened to look up and saw the woman coming off the front of the lorry and going under. The lorry braked right away."
