A crane has collapsed on a North Sea oil platform off the coast of Shetland.

Workers were lifting pipes aboard the Murchison platform when the incident happened at 3am on Monday.

None of the facility's 102 crew were injured but a Health and Safety Executive investigation is under way.

A spokeswoman for operator CNR said: "There has been significant damage to the boom on one of the Murchison platform cranes following an incident that occurred during a lifting operation on Monday.

"No one was hurt as result and all 102 personnel on board at the time of the incident are safe and well.

"There are currently no plans to downman."

The Murchison platform is around 320 miles north east of Aberdeen. The facility stopped producing oil in March 2014 and is expected to be fully decommissioned by the early 2020s.
