A pupil has been charged with carrying a knife at an Aberdeenshire Primary School.

Officers were alerted to the alleged incident on Tuesday by a parent and the boy has now been reported to the procurator fiscal.

The boy and the school have not been identified for legal reasons.

Aberdeenshire Council said it was working with the police to "ascertain the circumstances" around incident.

A spokesman said: "The safety of pupils and staff in our schools is of utmost importance. We take this incident seriously and are working with the police to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident."
