The People’s Projects gives you the chance to decide how National Lottery funding can make a difference in the North of Scotland.

Five good causes, all hoping to improve their local area, are competing for your vote.

Here they are:

Aberdeen Action on Disability

Project: Disabled Person's Media Unit

Aberdeen Action on Disability delivers media training to disabled adults in Aberdeen in order to provide skills development and to help them meet their benefits volunteering requirements, as well as increasing social skills and personal confidence.

This involves developing a website, a blog, social media presence and podcast. Volunteers produce all of the content during the course. The group would use the money for new and updated recording equipment, advertising, laptops, computer software and interpreters.

Comann nam Parant (Naiseanta)

Project: Thig a Chluich! – Come and Play!

Comann nam Parant provides Gaelic language play opportunities for preschool children and parents in rural communities in the Outer Hebrides. The group is based in Stornoway and travels to isolated communities in the islands by van rental in order to give opportunities for children to use the language.

The group would like to use the money to buy a transit van to bring their sessions to more communities more easily, as well as new toys and resources to be able to improve the quality of the sessions

Disability Snowsports Scotland

Project: Disability Snowsports Scotland Member & Training Hub

Disability Snowsports Scotland aims to develop a safe and enjoyable environment for people disabilities to participate in snowsports.

With the money, this project will invest in new specialist equipment and create a new volunteer training programme based at Glenshee.

Kirriemuir Community Allotment Association

Project: Up the Right Dreel'

The Kirriemuir Community Allotment Association was set up with the aim of developing a derelict allotment site into a sustainable community growing space.

The project has had lots of interest from a range of local residents including families, elderly people, veteran groups and community groups who all want to be able to grow their own fruit and vegetables on the land.

Sunnybank Community Centre Association

Project: Come an hae a peek, we hae plenty tae dee at Sunnybank Community

Sunnybank Community Centre is based in a multicultural community in Aberdeen and currently has over 18 nationalities attending classes and activities such as English lessons and toddler groups.

Their project aims to offer a range of activities to bring people together to build friendships, learn new skills and improve the community.

The People’s Projects is a joint venture between STV and the Big Lottery Fund. The three organisations which receive the highest number of votes will receive up to £50,000 each. The remaining two organisations from each region may receive up to £5000 each. The process is independently adjudicated by Electoral Reform Services.
