A father-of-three has died in the Alps after collapsing by the side of the road and suffering a heart attack.

Richard Casher was watching the Scotland vs England rugby match at a sports bar in Bourg-Saint-Maurice in the Rhone-Alpes region in south east France before was found in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The 45-year-old was taken to the Hospital Center De Bourg-Saint-Maurice by ambulance but was later pronounced dead.

Mr Casher grew up in the north east but had lived in France for a number of years running a business which sells British produce.

During his time in Scotland, he played for Aberdeenshire rugby team the Mackie Academy Former Pupils Rugby Football Club.

In a statement, the team said: "All our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very difficult time.

"Richard was by far one of the most colourful and talented players who pulled on the red jersey for the club."
