Officers hunting a man who raped a 21-year-old woman have issued a fresh appeal after speaking to a key witness.

Police appealed for the man seen near the scene of the crime to contact them after incident in Aberdeen on Thursday morning.

Officers said he had provided "useful information" about the attack in Union Terrace Gardens and asked any other witnesses to contact them.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "We’d again ask anyone who was near Union Terrace Gardens, Union Terrace, or in the area around the Central Library or His Majesty's Theatre at about 3.30am on Thursday to come forward.

"All information helps and it may be that others have heard or seen something which will help us find the person responsible for this assault.”
