Scotland's newest MSP said she would be "getting stuck in" to her new job although she could spend less than three months at Holyrood.

Lesley Brennan, who is a Labour councillor in Dundee, was sworn in as the party's latest representative for the north-east of Scotland region.

It comes after her party colleague Richard Baker announced on Monday he would be stepping down from the parliament with immediate effect to take on a new job with the charity Age Scotland.

Ms Brennan, who was the next person on the north-east list, has now been brought in to replace him.

She will be an MSP until March 24 this year, when parliament is dissolved ahead of the Scottish election.

Ms Brennan said: "I had not expected to become an MSP in this parliamentary session but even although it is only for a short time it is a privilege to represent the people of the north-east in the Scottish Parliament.

"I'll be doing all I can to support Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale and her team during my time at Holyrood and am looking forward to getting stuck in to my new job."
