A teenager has been charged following a fire at an Aberdeenshire primary school.

Fire crews were called to Kinellar Primary, in the Blackburn area, just after 2am on New Year's Day.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent around 28 crew members in five appliances, one water carrier and a welfare unit to the scene.

No one was injured in the fire, which took five hours to bring under control.

On Friday police said a 16-year-old boy has been charged in relation to the fire and a report would be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

Detective sergeant George Nixon said: "We would like to thank members of the Blackburn community for their support and assistance throughout this enquiry."
