A woman who died in a crash between a car and a van in the Highlands, which has left a man fighting for his life, has been named.

Emergency services were called to the scene of a crash involving a red Vauxhall Insignia and a white Ford Transit Tipper on the Inverness to Nairn road, one mile east of the airport roundabout, at around 3.30pm on Tuesday.

The passenger of the car, a 65-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

She has been named as Alison Campbell.

The driver of the car, a 69-year-old man, was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness where he remains in a “critical condition”.

The driver of the van was uninjured.

Police Scotland is urging anyone with information regarding the crash to come forward.

Sergeant Kate Finlayson said: “Our thoughts are with Alison’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“Enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the crash are ongoing. I’d like to thank everyone who has provided information so far and ask anyone else who saw what happened or has dash-cam footage to come forward.”
