A woman has been left seriously injured after being struck by a car outside a retail park in the Highlands.

The 56-year-old was outside Fort William Retail Park when she was hit by the vehicle on the A82 at North Road at around 2pm on Friday.

Emergency services attended and she was transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where she is being treated for her injuries.

Medical staff have described her condition as serious.

The road was closed for around three hours as police officers carried out investigations and they are now appealing for witnesses.

Road Policing Constable Ben Cruickshank from the Highland & Islands Road Policing Unit said: “The road was closed for over three hours to allow for a collision investigation to be carried out.

“We are looking for anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage from the area at the time to get in touch via 101.”
