iStockA woman has died after a house fire at a crofting community in the Highlands.
Emergency services were called to reports of a fire at a semi-detached property on the A861 near Glenuig around 10.18am on Wednesday.
Four fire engines were sent to the scene where a woman was pronounced dead.
Two other people were treated by ambulance crews at the scene.
A joint investigation by SFRS and Police Scotland into the incident is ongoing.
Area commander, Michael Humphreys, said: “We were alerted at 10.18am on Wednesday, May 14, to reports of a dwelling fire on the A861 near Glenuig.
“Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the scene of a fire affecting a semi-detached property.
“Sadly, one casualty passed away at the scene.
“Our thoughts are very much with their family, friends and all of those affected at this difficult time.
“A joint investigation between SFRS and Police Scotland is ongoing.”
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “The A861 near Glenuig, Lochailort, has now reopened following a fire at a property in the area.
“Emergency services were called around 10.45am on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, and a woman died at the scene.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 10.42am on Wednesday to attend an incident in Lochaber.
“We dispatched two ambulances and a GP to the scene. We transported one patient to Belford Hospital while a further two patients were treated and discharged at the scene.”
