A woman has died and four people are in a “serious” condition in hospital after a crash on the A9 in the Highlands.
Officers were called to the scene of the collision on the major road near Carrbridge at around 10.15pm on Wednesday evening involving a Volkswagen Multivan and a Toyota Hilux pick-up truck.
A 65-year-old woman, a passenger in the Volkswagen, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Volkswagen driver, a 64-year-old man, and two passengers, a 33-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man, and the 51-year-old male driver of the Toyota were taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness where their condition is described as “serious”.
The major road was closed overnight to allow police to conduct crash investigations, before it fully reopened after 5.30am on Thursday.
Road Policing Sergeant Calum MacAulay said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who died at this very difficult time.
“As our enquiries continue, I’d appeal to anyone with information to come forward.
“I’d be particularly keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened or has dashcam footage of the area around the time.”
