A woman has died after falling into the water near Dunnet Head on the north coast of Scotland.

The incident occurred around 6pm on Thursday, August 6, on a remote peninsula in Caithness.

Emergency services, including HM Coastguard, were called out following reports that someone had fallen in the water.

A Coastguard helicopter, along with several rescue teams and the Thurso RNLI lifeboat, was deployed to search the area.

The body of a 60-year-old woman was recovered from the water.

Her family has been notified, and her death is not being treated as suspicious.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Emergency services attended a report of a 60-year-old woman having fallen in the water in the Dunnet Head area around 6.15pm on Thursday, August 6.

“A body was recovered and her family has been notified.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
