Watch 'incredible encounter' with playful bottlenose dolphins

A video has captured an “incredible encounter” with a playful pod of bottlenose dolphins off the coast of the Isle of Mull.

The animals surfaced near the end of a guided wildlife trip on the island’s northern coastline on Tuesday.

Bottlenose dolphins are perhaps the best-known of the cetaceans found around Scotland.

Most of them live off the east coast, with around 224 individuals.

However, there is a smaller west coast population.

Guides from Sea Life Mull described the moment as the dolphins swam along with them in the glassy water.

“We saw the bottlenose dolphins just off Glengorm Castle, north coastline of Mull on Tuesday”, they told STV News.

“They were really putting on a show leaping out the water, swimming upside down and bow riding.

“Bottlenose dolphins in Scotland grow up to 4m in length, the largest of any bottlenose in the world and we’ve had ten sightings already this season.”
