Two men who lost their lives in a fatal road crash in the Highlands have been identified.

David Hamilton, 25, and Finley Hope, 24, have been named by police following the collision on the A836 on Sunday.

Police were called to Torroble near Lairg where the crash occurred around 3.20pm.

A white Mazda RX8 was found after it careered off the side of the road.

Mr Hamilton and Mr Hope were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Local councillor Michael Baird said the community had been shocked and deeply saddened to hear of the tragedy.

He told STV News: “We have lost two youngsters in the prime of their life.”

The road was closed for around 10 hours as police carried our investigations at the scene.

Officers are now calling for anyone with information or dash-cam footage to come forward.

Sergeant Calum MacAulay said: “Our thoughts are very much with the families of these two young men at this very difficult time.

“Our investigation to establish the full circumstances of what happened is ongoing and we are appealing to anyone who can assist, who has not already spoken to officers, to please get in touch.

“If you have dash-cam footage or anything else that could help with our enquiries then please call us on 101, quoting incident number 2086 of October 16.”
