Two teenagers arrested in connection with rape attacks in Orkney

Two teens aged 16 and 18 have been arrested in connection with two separate sex attacks over the weekend.

Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with two reported rapes in Orkney.

Police Scotland launched separate inquiries in Kirkwall after two women reported sex attacks over the weekend of August 13 and 14.

The force said on Wednesday that an 18-year-old man was arrested in connection with the first of the attacks, which took place in some public toilets on St Magnus Lane on Saturday.

Another male, aged 16, was arrested in connection with the second rape which took place in Muddisdale Loan on Sunday.

While these incidents are not being linked by police, their enquiries are ongoing.

Both youths arrested have since been released while investigations continue.

Inspector David Hall said: “We understand the concern both these reported incidents have caused to the local community and I want to offer reassurance that following these two arrests, our extensive enquiries are continuing.

“Anyone with information or concerns can contact us via 101, or approach any officer on patrol in the local area.”
