Two men have been arrested over the disappearance of a cyclist who was last seen more than three years ago. 

Tony Parsons, from Tillicoultry, was last seen on September 29, 2017, outside the Bridge of Orchy Hotel near Glencoe during a charity bike ride. 

No trace of the 63-year-old or his bike have ever been found.

Police have confirmed that two men, both aged 29, were arrested on Wednesday. They were released pending further inquiries. 

A spokesperson said: “We can confirm that on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, two men, both aged 29, were arrested and then released pending further inquiries in connection with the disappearance of Anthony Parsons, who was reported missing in September 2017. 

“Inquiries are ongoing.” 

Mr Parsons was last seen cycling near Glencoe in September 2017. 

He had taken a train from his home in Tillicoultry, Stirlingshire, to Fort William in the Highlands earlier that day and intended to cycle back. 

Extensive searches were carried out in the area, involving local mountain rescue teams, volunteers, Police Scotland dogs and the force’s air support unit.
